Why is it important to learn Spanish?

Spanish is the first language of over 300 million people around the world. It is not only becoming a business necessity; it will transform your holiday experience as you will be able to understand and enjoy the Hispanic culture.

How long will it take me to be able to speak Spanish?

If you are starting from beginner level and it is the first time you participate in Spanish classes the expected number of hours to achieve basic communication skills is 90 hours of training. These don't include the time you are expected to invest in doing some independent learning outside the classroom setting. Overall it may take you around 120 hours of learning to complete Level A1 successfully.

Does MKSPANISH offer courses for children?

Yes. We offer private courses for groups of 1 up to 4 children, at the tutor's home studio in Milton Keynes.

What is the best course for a complete beginner?

If this is the first time you particiapte in Spanish training you should begin with Level A1.

Is the Spanish in Spain different to the Latin American Spanish?

While there are distinctions between the varieties of Spanish (not only among the countries in South America but even within different regions in Spain!), Spanish speakers are united by the same language - Castillian - and can all understand each other, whether in Madrid or Buenos Aires.

It is similar to English, where Americans, British and Australians speak to each other without problem.

I've been teaching myself Spanish online using language apps, but it's not really holding my interest anymore. Can you suggest a way to mantain the motivation and really improve my Spanish?

Language learning using apps is a good way to acquire vocabulary, to familiarise yourself with basic structrures or to develop your ability to hear and recognise words. However, learning a language is, to a great extent, important for communicating with people. Here is advisable to upgrade to a language course where you can interact with real people. These days you can achieve this by visiting a group class, by having private lessons or by enrolling for Skype lessons with a native speaker!

I have been learning Spanish for a few years using audio CDs and various online tools. I would like to improve so that I can speak more fluently. What should I do?

You should start by having your Spanish level assessed, because it is important to know where are you at with your learning. Once you know what is your level you could look for a suitable face-to-face course that offers you the opportunity to practise your spoken Spanish on a regular basis, e.g. once or twice a week.

Also, watching the news (don't miss our YouTube channel!) or movies with Spanish subtitles is a good way to keep up the practice.

What are the advantages of attending a traditional class or learning with a tutor?

The most evident advantage is that you learn in real time; this means you can practise, receive inmediate feedback, have your questions answered and learn through a multi-skill learning experience (i.e. speaking and listening, reading and writing) - all together.

A second characteristic is the relation you establish with your co-learners and/or your tutor. Learning a language is a socio-cognitive skill that is best learned with other people.

Face-to-face learning is also good to avoid procrastination - your tutor and your class mates are the best coaches to keep you on track!

Will I be able to receive a qualification that is recognised internationally?

Yes. We are SIELE examinations centre. A SIELE certificate provides information of your degree of proficiency in Spanish. It is supported by more than 20 universities worlwide to guarantee the standards for quality and good practices in the creation of the tests, which makes it a widely accepted qualification to study abroad.

Why is it important to obtain a SIELE certificate?

A SIELE certificate potentially enables you to work or study in a Spanish speaking country.

What happens if I need to cancel a course application, or drop a class?

If you need to cancel your application once the course has started you are entitled to receive a full refund of the course fees (£15 registration fee excluded) when withdrawing a course registration within the next 72 hours after the first scheduled lesson has taken place, or before. After this deadline mkSpanish retains 100% of the course fees. In all instances, notification of cancellation must be made in writing to info@mkspanish.com and will be effective on the date received by mkSpanish.

What does the registration fee cover, and why is it non refundable?

Your registration fee is not part of your tuition fees. It is an additional fee that confirms your intention to join a given course and helps us to cover the admin costs involved in processing your enquiry, like reserving a place for you, providing training advice, ordering your learning materials, including your name in the attendance and insurance lists, informing you about the status of your booking and allocating the classroom.

All these services are delivered to you regardless whether you stay in the course or not, reason why a refund doesn't apply.
